Why does neck pain happen?

Neck pain can be linked to sitting in the wrong position for long periods, stress, muscle tension, postural disorders and spinal problems. Along with the pain, there may be discomfort spreading to the shoulders and arms, restricted movement and headaches.

If the pain keeps coming back and affects daily life, an examination by a specialist is important to identify its cause.

What is “text neck”?

Looking at a phone for hours a day significantly increases the load on the cervical spine. Over time, “text neck” syndrome can lead to straightening of the neck and to disc herniations.

What should you do?

  • Hold your phone at eye level.
  • Move your neck every 30 minutes.
  • Keep to good posture habits.

If the pain has become chronic, it is time to get professional physiotherapy support.

What if your hands also go numb?

Numbness in the hands together with neck and shoulder pain can sometimes be linked to compression of the nerves and blood vessels between the neck and shoulder — thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). More: Nerve compression and neuropathies.

Treatment methods: Manual therapy, Neural therapy and dry needling.
