Physiotherapy and rehabilitation for children

For children, rehabilitation is not only for after an injury — it is an integral part of treating many conditions.

When does a child need rehabilitation?

Paediatric rehabilitation is used for orthopaedic problems, spinal curvatures, injuries, recovery after surgery and neurological conditions. Each needs the right approach: the body is not only treated — it is taught again.

What does rehabilitation aim for in cerebral palsy?

At the clinical examination, shortening and tension in certain muscle groups (spasticity), weakness in others, and gait and coordination problems are assessed. An individually planned programme usually includes:

  • Regulating muscle tone
  • Stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Functional exercises to restore walking
  • Developing neuromuscular coordination

The goal is to restore motor function as fully as possible, increase independent movement and improve quality of life.
