The right movement for a healthy future: the role of technique in exercise

Exercise is the greatest investment you can make in your body — but not every movement is beneficial.

Exercise is the greatest investment we can make in our body, but one detail must not be forgotten: not every movement is beneficial. Instead of bringing you closer to your goal, training with poor technique can lead to injuries that are hard to recover from.

Why does correct technique matter so much?

Protecting the joints. Weights lifted at the wrong angle cause micro-injuries in the knee, shoulder and spinal joints. In the future this can lead to serious problems such as arthrosis and disc herniation.

Muscle balance. When a movement is performed incorrectly, the load falls not on the target muscle but on the assisting muscles. As a result, you do not get the shape you want — and a muscle imbalance develops.

Don’t confuse fatigue with pain

Don’t confuse the “good” tiredness after a workout with the sharp pain caused by poor technique. If the pain keeps getting worse, your body is sending you a signal.

Running technique

A poor running form puts extra load on the knees, ankles, lower back and other areas, increasing the risk of pain and injury. Correct body position, stride and foot strike help you run more safely and effectively. If you feel pain or discomfort while running, see a specialist to identify the cause.

To stay healthy, don’t just move — choose the right movement. After an injury: Orthopaedic rehabilitation.
